BIOGRAPHY

Stella Lee (b. 1995) is a Chinese visual artist based in London. A graduate of the University of the Arts London, her practice explores the tension and harmony that emerge from visual conflict. Through a distinctive approach to mixed media, she combines unexpected colors, textures, and materials to challenge conventional perceptions and evoke visceral responses.
Her work is rooted in an ongoing investigation of contrast—between tradition and modernity, fluidity and structure, softness and aggression. By embracing experimentation and spontaneity, she creates immersive pieces that invite viewers to engage with complexity in both form and feeling.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is a search for meaning in contradiction. I’m drawn to the moments where things don’t quite align—where softness meets sharpness, where old ideas clash with new energies, and where color, texture, and form push against each other to reveal something unexpected.
Using mixed media as both a tool and a language, I let instinct and tension guide the process. I work intuitively, layering vivid hues, tactile surfaces, and unconventional materials to create compositions that are intentionally unresolved. What might feel chaotic at first glance often carries a quiet logic, a fragile balance beneath the surface.
As someone who moves between cultures and histories, I’m interested in the emotional textures of contrast—how opposites can coexist and how visual conflict can become its own kind of harmony. I don’t aim to simplify or explain; instead, I invite the viewer into a space of feeling, where beauty exists not in clarity, but in complexity.
