ARTIST STATEMENT
I love abstract painting for its pure sensuality. It gives shape to the invisible and liberates art from depiction of the visible world. It opens up a boundless exploration of colors, emotions and forms, articulating otherwise indescribable realms.
Time and chaos are my themes. I'm a largely self-taught painter, and my work reflects the beauty in urban decay and the fleeting nature of city life. I'm a city-dweller - I've lived my entire adult life in core districts of New York City, Providence, Boston and Portland, Maine - and I look to capture the textures and memories in spaces overlooked, even in the densest zones, that evoke a sense of nostalgia and the passage of time.
In my paintings I contemplate the chaotic and unpredictable everyday of urban life, highlighting the connections, the variety and the subtle poetic moments. I seek to create reflections of the spaces and emotions that lie beneath the surface.
