What do you aim to say by the themes in your art?

Through my work I aim to create tangible, tactile surfaces where even if the onlooker doesn't recognize the process - they can immediately recognize the change in the surface. With my portraits I hope to celebrate the authentic nature of the people I photograph and embellish, celebrating all of their most human qualities.

Where does your inspiration come from?

Inspiration is everywhere for me. In ribbon trimmings and wrappers, movies and magazines. Anything that gets me thinking about texture or gives me ideas of what I can bead embroider into next.

Do you have any experiences that have impacted your art?

I think all of life has influenced my work. I think that is the best part of art collectively. That every maker comes to the table with their own specific story to tell, their own personal bias and preferences. It's what gives us such a wide range of creations and exploration of media.

Do you feel your art challenges existing barriers?

Visually I hope my work gets you thinking about what the thought process was, evokes a memory, or creates a connection. Whether it changes existing barriers is for each and every viewer to decide.

What are your long-term artistic goals?

In April of this year, I left my gallery job to pursue making full-time. I am beyond grateful for the journey itself and look forward to the abundance it brings to my life.

What advice do you have for aspiring artists?

As long as you show up for yourself everyday you cannot fail.
