THE EXHIBIT

This work isn’t about the figure, it’s more about drawing as a way of thinking and a way of being.

 

In a world where every method feels exhausted, there’s freedom in returning to something simple: pigment, surface and intention. Drawing remembers every mark and every hesitation, all revision lingers, breathing just beneath the surface.

 

To draw is to lay bare a kind of lived clarity. Uncertainty and structure held together in a quiet contradiction. Sense and abstraction aren’t opposites here; they move together.

Working primarily with the ballpoint pen, Duke Chinedu Mark creates portraits that honor resilience, memory, and emotional depth. His meticulous technique transforms a humble tool into a medium of permanence, crafting powerful images of Black identity with clarity and reverence. His art bridges personal memory and collective heritage, offering viewers a profound meditation on identity, tradition, and the quiet endurance of spirit.
