ARTIST STATEMENT
My primary interest is the authentically arising artwork. It begins for its own reasons. It has a will and ideas, a psyche, all its own. Method and style would choke it to death, so I avoid them. When the authentically arising artwork shows up, I let it take charge. I let it choose its format and elements, and direct its own formation. I facilitate its realization until the artwork reveals a psychological presence, justifies its existence, and stops telling me what to do.
My inclinations come from a need to preserve art-making's intrinsic, organic relationship to humanity, in the face of societal, economic, and technological forces hell-bent on pushing artists to reduce art-making to the factory-like production of a kind of economically graded cultural fodder. I'm possessed by the fanatical belief that the art-making faculty originates from dimensions of existence that transcend our self-interested societies and institutions. Living as a conduit for that faculty, whatever the art form, is as close to the sacred as many people will ever get.
