What do you aim to say by the themes in your work?

I always want my art to be an authentic representation of myself.  I paint the ideas that I feel drawn to so I will always have an outpour of my emotions onto my work.  With my art,  I hope to spark a feeling within my viewers or send a message.  Some common themes in my art are madness, apathy, injustice, the feeling of being trapped, concealed, liberated.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I find my inspiration in many things.  I have always seemed to gravitate towards darker, stranger or more taboo themes however to search for the darkness all the time feels a bit ingenuine.  I enjoy the contrast and balance of life.  The darkness and the light, cute and scary, nonconforming and conventional are all a part of every existence. I paint to capture the thoughts that run rampant through my mind.

How would you describe your creative process?

I do not feel that I have a creative process.  I believe that I do have a natural talent so creating art does come easier to me however I do not feel inspired all the time and that is okay with me.  I want to feel that all my ideas are close to my heart and when I feel a strong push to create, only then do I wish to create.  This helps me to appreciate and understand what my art means to me because it allows me time to think about the themes I am trying to convey.

What is integral to your work as an artist?

Being heavily attached to the idea of the art I will be creating is definitely necessary to my work.  I always want to be making art that I feel a strong connection towards.  Inspiration comes in waves sometimes so creating art all the time is unrealistic for me.  In this way, I have had to learn to be patient with my creative rhythm and allow myself to be naturally drawn to my next piece.

Do you have any experiences that have impacted your art?

A lot of my inspiration for art comes from experiences I have had throughout my life.  I had a childhood that was very difficult for me and upon adulthood I slowly began to unravel and understand my mind and experiences. Upon escaping physical obstacles, I was left with mental and emotional obstacles.  I felt uncertainty and was often tormented by my own confusion and delusion.  My paintings reflect my unresolved thoughts and have become an outlet to accept and understand who I am.

What advice do you have for aspiring artists?

My advice to aspiring artists is to muster up as much confidence as possible and to be patient.  Being a successful artist is difficult especially if you are expecting progress overnight.  Allowing yourself to enjoy the art you produce and not swamping your mind with the pressures of constantly creating or comparing yourself to other creatives is a mindset that must be practiced.
