Paint the Pain Away

Nina Luna

Artist: Nina Luna

December 8, 2023 - February 16, 2024

OVERVIEW

Nina Luna is an international artist who survived two-time breast cancer. She was diagnosed in October 2011 and has been in remission since February 2014. She first started painting as an art form in October 2013. Though she can draw quite well, she never applied it as a form of art or took it seriously until she added paint. It quickly became a place where she could hide from the pain she was going through and go to a place of tranquility and freedom from the world she was existing in.
As part of her healing process after losing both breasts, she chose a female torso as her canvas. Painting them helps her to embrace who she is as a woman, realizing she is just as beautiful now as she was with breasts.

Nina Luna is a two-time breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in October 2011 and has been in remission since February 2014. She really doesn’t remember much of it; She guesses that’s a blessing. The only way she can describe it is like going through a wormhole, shooting out the other side, and wondering what the heck happened. She first started painting as an art form in October 2013. Though she can draw quite well, she never applied it as a form of art or took it seriously until she added paint. It quickly became a place where she could hide from the pain she was going through and go to a place of calmness, tranquility, and freedom from the world she was existing in.

As part of her healing process after losing both breasts, she chose a female torso as her canvas. She’d really never looked at the female body as beautiful. Painting them helps her to embrace who she is as a woman, realizing she is just as beautiful now as she was with breasts. Each piece tells a story of where she was mentally while going through cancer, where she has gone, where she is now on her journey, and how she has grown as a woman, a survivor, and an artist. As of today, she has become an international artist with several publications and exhibits of her work.
