Ris V. Rose
Ris V. Rose is a 22-year-old poet and fiction writer in Ontario, Canada with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Psychology from the University of Toronto. Her journey with words began with reading children's books about magic and exploration and continues in her adult life with writing about the very same things: magic and the exploration of human emotion. She uses poetry to come to terms with how she feels, using imagery of flowers, outer space, light, and dreams, and uses fiction to traverse the deepest corners of her inner world of imagination. She has completed dozens of short stories, hundreds of poems, and the first draft of a few novels. She is a Writer in Residence and blog writer for Culturally Arts and has had 7 poems published with The Soap Box Press. She is currently in the process of editing her first poetry collection for publication (coming soon...).

What are some positive traits that you believe you carry?
I believe myself to be hard-working, creative, and imaginative. Alongside these traits, I also am especially welcoming and caring of others.
What prompted you to want to be an artist?
I've always carried the strong, internal desire to create art. From a young age, I would want to carry a pen and write, as well to create stories. Poetry gave me something to express to the world, which prompted me to want to be an artist.
What themes do you pursue?
Themes change per collection. For my previous collection, I sought after themes pertaining to the sky, seeing what the stars were trying to say. Now, I am incorporating themes relating to nature: the stars, sun, moon, the city, flowers and living things in nature.
Do you have any long-term goals? How do you ensure that you are moving along that path?
My long term goals include obtaining a Master's in Speech-Pathology and potentially a Master's in Linguistics as well. In this field, I aim to eventually work with children. Though at times it could be difficult to pursue both art and education, I take things one step at a time in order to ensure that I am moving alongside that path.
What's integral to the work of an arist?
The most important thing is for artist to make art for themselves. People often have a lot of external pressures to do things for others, but as artists, we should strive to work to have the desire to create.
