Barbara Ramos
Bárbara Ramos, born in 2000, is a multidisciplinary artist from São Paulo, Brazil, whose production focuses on the symbolism of her own subconscious narratives, and those she observes in her daily life. Using materiality as a fundamental element of both the creation process and the final aesthetic result, her works can take on different supports: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, embroidery, engraving.

What do you aim to say by the themes in your art?
My work is about relationships, human connection, and inner self. I put my baggage in my art, which is not only mine. We all feel the same things during our life. I want people to connect with the themes of my art too, see themselves in it, and perhaps heal themselves.
Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from the observations of my surroundings and the experiences that I have. I usually capture those observations in writing, then I unravel and develop those ideas. I believe that we are full of rich subconscious content, which when translated into art form, can become something beyond what we were seeking.
Do you have experiences that impacted your art?
From time to time my art is impacted by the experiences I have. The pain, the joy, the relationships, and the narratives of my life and the lives of others influence and change my art and my outlook as well. My art is fluid and constructed by the world around me.
Do you feel your art challenges existing barriers?
I realize that the concept of beauty that I have is not the same as some people's concept. I am not sure if my art challenges anything, but I certainly bring another look to what is not in the standards of what is beautiful, and the themes that are commonly talked about. Sometimes I like to talk in my art about violence and despair, and people don't always appreciate this kind of art, but I try to get people in touch with it
What are your long-term artistic goals?
I want to touch people with my art in the most intense way, and as many people as possible. I want to exceed my own capabilities and do new and amazing things. And at some point, I want to start helping adults and children discover the wonder of making art.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists?
Find the pleasure in art making, throw off the shackles, and at the same time, try to find out who you are and get in contact with yourself. Everything will fall into place eventually, and it is a never-ending process, but it is a wonderful one.
